The exhibition features over 250 (art) objects with close links to the world of gods and spirits and the associated rituals. Some of these objects were made for the many vodou temples while others were made for the secret Bizango society. Many of them have never been exhibited outside Haiti before.

A caribbean contemporary art exhibit curated by Edouard Duval-Carrié with the support of Cultures France, the haitien Cultural Art alliance and the City of Miami.
The exhibit features 23 artists from Cuba, Martinique, Haiti, Jamaica, the Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Trinidad, Guadeloupe, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico and includes photography, paintings, sculptures and video installations...

Jacob Lawrence (1918-2000) created 15 dramatic and colorful silk-screen prints based on a series of 41 paintings entitled The Life of Toussaint L’Ouverture that he completed in 1938. This exhibition will present all fifteen silk-screen prints from the Curtis Ransom Collection of African American Art, alongside the Dallas Museum of Art’s painting The Visitors, and a related portrait photograph by Arnold Newman of the artist from the DMA’s collections.

A bold graphic in the Johnson Lobby that displays the flag of Haiti and a cartouche from a 1725 map of the island announces an exhibition organized by the Norman B. Leventhal Map Center. There are seven maps of Haiti in the cases that include two historic maps from the 1700’s of Hispaniola, as it was once called, the island that Columbus discovered in 1492. The other maps are contemporary and two of them show the tectonic plates that caused the January 12 earthquake...
